Is the Ethereum blockchain bloated?

Yes, definitely.

The complete Ethereum blockchain is above 1 tera bytes, and the ‘fast synch’ / headers only blockchain takes more than 30 giga bytes.

In order to reach and keep being up to date / synchronized status an Ethereum node has to use a large solid state drive / SSD - no longer possible to use normal hard disk.

With such requirements ordinary people can not run Ethereum nodes, and some of the existing proof of work / PoW mining nodes may drop out of the network of nodes after the switch to proof of stake / PoS consensus type.
